Love is a Battlefield

So after a horrible week trying to get over breaking up with my boyfriend of 2 years my professor thinks it would be a good idea for me to write a poem about love.. well it didn't turn into the mushy love poem like I think she is expecting..

Love Is A Battlefield

When loving hearts break their bliss,

The dreams that were once of happiness together shed pain.

The comfort of that loving embrace,

Turns to the fear of being alone and scared.

Romance turns into an unwanted war,

And lovers who were once true turn into bitter enemies.

No more kisses to express feelings,

Now just the hate of what has come to be.

The champagne no longer celebrates the love,

But now is used to cloud the memories.

Agony is all that is left for the one,

While the clean break leaves the other happy.

Lost and confused in a dark conscious,

The embrace from the enemy is the only cure.

Shattered hopes will overpower every waking thought,

Just to get through the day’s routine is now a challenge.

The pain overcomes the entire thought and movement,

Leaving it as though there was no love in the first place.
